I am not an Addition

Anne Cox and I have circled the yoga therapy world together for years. She’s also been my yoga prop dealer for just as long. This past year she came into Year of YOU, and one sentence from her reflection of the year has stayed with me: I am not an addition.

In this conversation we walk through Listen, Trust, Follow, the heart of Sister Science, through Anne’s story. It starts with a fall on the ice and a body that was screaming. It ends with a simple invitation: pause, listen, and ask whether it’s a yes.

We talk about:

  • What it means to stop adapting, accommodating, and making room, and to let what you offer be enough as it is
  • How a restorative class taught Anne to hear her body’s whispers before they turned into screams Why teaching kept her practice alive through the years of raising twins (the duck on the pond, calm on top, legs going like crazy underneath)
  • Belonging vs. fitting in, and the shift from “where do I fit?” to “how do I reclaim my own voice?”
  • Why we both prefer calling the Yamas and Niyamas tools rather than rules.
  • Patience, persistence, and practice, Anne’s three P’s
  • Meeting discomfort with compassion and kindness, so your intuition feels safe enough to speak
  • The difference between reacting and responding, and the little pause that sits between them Why you’re never “fixed once and for all,” and why that’s good news

We end on Anne's invitation is to pause and reflect on where you might be leaving yourself out of your own life, and take one small step towards trusting your inner wisdom. Give yourself permission to pause before saying yes, to listen before reacting, and to make room for what really feels true for you.

Anne is a Yoga Therapist, teaching therapeutic focused classes since 2004.  You can find her class schedule at acyoga.net. She teaches online in our Sister Science Community, at SLS in Cochrane and YogaMCC in Calgary.
